Sketching the Fish & Chip shop, Iffley Road, Oxford

I am guessing that most posts about watercolouring or sketching are about picturesque things: landscapes, Sunsets etc. but if you are into urban sketching then that is not always the case. So here is a more off-beat sketch from my travels around Oxford.

After cycling along the river to the south of the city, I headed back into Oxford via the Iffley Road. On a grotty, grey old day I decided to get my sketching stool out and try a drawing of the Fish & Chip shop there.

Here is my view, with my sketch in-situ. Sorry the photos are not better – but as said it was a grotty dull old day – though you do get the impression of the neon’s blazing here at mid-afternoon.

Here is a view of my finished sketch.

That was as far as I got with this particular sketch, as I think it started drizzling or raining. I may attempt to add some watercolour to the above later on.
