It has been a cold month so far and the tendency is to hibernate a little – especially after the Christmas excesses. It is still a good idea to get out occasionally if conditions permit, and to maybe do a little sketching along the way. Hence, after a cruise around the shops in Oxford, I settled on a sunny spot outside the Weston Library on Broad Street and decided to do a sketch of the Oxford Martin School. This is a building that I’ve drawn before – it is a handsome stone building that was formerly The Indian Institute – with some fine carved stone detailing. For a previous post I’ve leave a link at the end.
Here is my view and a rather jaunty view of my sketch in-situ

After a while the sun moved round, the temperature dropped and it was time to move on. In my case this meant going into the Weston to try a pot of their tea. Below is the view of my partial sketch of the Martin School and later a tidied up scan of the same.

Sketching from cafe’s and tearooms is also part of urban sketching – so here also is my sketch from inside the Weston…
