After a gap of a couple of years, we recently made it back to Alicante again – for a holiday and a recharge. Last time we were here I did quite a bit of sketching so this time I took along a couple of sketchbooks and a small sketching stool. I decided it was worth the space in my flight bag to have a bit more comfort.
It was nice to be back and gradually I ventured out to do some sketching – mostly around the old town. After a few days I decided to walk out a little from the city centre to sketch a small metal lighthouse, now sited just outside the city’s docks.
Here is my view of the lighthouse, sited on a roundabout to the south of the city. One advantage of being away from the main tourist areas was that it was relatively quiet apart from the traffic circumnavigating the roundabout. Sitting right next to the roundabout, cars would stop every so often at a set of changing lights. Most seemed pleasantly surprised to find someone sketching their local lighthouse and roundabout. I’m guessing this doesn’t happen very often.

Here is my sketch in-situ and another view…

Below is my sketch.
