On a Sunday afternoon I took a trip out to the village of Bishopstone which lies just over the border from Oxfordshire into Wiltshire. This is one of a string of villages along the northern slopes of the Ridgeway set in some pretty special countryside. My trip was specifically to draw one of Bishopstone’s picturesque thatched cottages. This was a cottage I’d seen on a previous visit, so why not go back and draw it on a lovely summer’s afternoon? To add to the occasion, the nearby village pub was in full swing with seemingly most of the village out enjoying the sunshine and listening to a local band in pleasant surroundings. After a brief visit to the pub, I made the short walk, chose a spot and set about drawing my chosen cottage from the shade of a nearby tree.
Here is my view, my sketch in-situ and a scan of the completed drawing.

Looking back at previous posts I found that is is a view I’ve drawn before – and done a watercolour of !
