Walking through Winchester

Winchester is a very old city. It was at one time a major Roman town (Venta) and later the capital of England. So if you like a bit of history, a walk around Winchester might be an option.

If you know Winchester then you might recognise the subject of this post. it is one of my older watercolours that I originally called ‘Walking past St. Lawrence’s’. It is a view of an alleyway between the Cathedral and the old Market Cross, with St. Lawrence’s Church tucked away on the right of my picture. There are also bakeries and cafes if you fancy some refreshment.

There also used to be a good photographic shop to the left of my picture, displaying a selection of new and used cameras and photographic equipment. This is also worth a little pilgrimage of its own as I’ve always been a bit partial to old cameras…

If you like this watercolour it is now also available as a print from my Etsy shop at this link – or you could search Etsy for ‘OxfordArtist’.

Here is my watercolour – and a cropped close-up of some of the detail.
