With the weather improving and a few days of sunshine coming our way, I’ve been tempted to go out more and do some sketching. So on a Sunday morning I made my way into Oxford and did a short walk to Christ Church Meadows. Finding a suitable bench I set about drawing the Meadows building on this crisp and sunny day. This is a subject I’ve tried before and I have previous posts which I will leave links to at the end of this post.
Here is my view of the meadows building and my sketch in-situ.

Note the mitts – it was still cold enough to wear these to sketch but with the sunshine and slightly raised temperatures it was a lot more pleasant to be out sketching again. Also, where some people might have a ‘constitutional’ walk in these conditions I tend to find that sketching sort of fulfills that role for me.
This turned out to be quite a complicated subject, but my aim is to perhaps eventually put together another bigger drawing and watercolour.
For comparison, here is a earlier sketch from a different angle – and also a finished, more complete view from an earlier post.

So I suppose there is some variation in style – but that is also what makes sketching and painting more interesting. If you look through my work you will also find some more formal interpretations of this building and views around Christ Church. These are a contrast to the more whimsical- and wonky- line sketch above.
