Kidlington is a village just north of Oxford and it is home to Oxford Building Supplies. This is one of those endangered species of shops – a bits and pieces hardware shop. I have to admit I have a soft spot for this kind of store – whether it is a ‘bits and pieces’ car factor place, an old fashioned toy shop that has been there for years, or a non-chain hardware shop. So you might be surprised to find me doing a drawing of it, though to me this is just an extension of various urban sketches of other small shops and eateries around Oxford. I think it is actually a good thing to record this sort of place. Consider it an appreciation of small businesses not yet swallowed up by bigger chains.
