Oxford central library is a big concrete survival from the early 70s. It is not my favourite being quite monolithic in that 70s way and somewhat lacking in natural daylight. It is however a good place to go and do some sketching, especially on a rainy or otherwise gloomy day. So occasionally I will visit and if I’m lucky there might be a space at one of the few external windows. Here there is a view looking out on to Castle Street, across to The Liaison (a semi derelict Cantonese take-away) and the flats over a big Wetherspoons – and it is one I’ve drawn a few times.
On this occasion I drew the customers outside the Wetherspoons again. If nothing else it is good practice sketching people in an urban environment. I’ve also drawn the flats, The Liaison and the building site next door – now pretty much completed. If you are interested to take a look at these I’ll add some links to my previous posts below.
Here is my view of the ‘Spoons from the library window and my sketch in-situ.

For comparison here is a more full-blown watercolour of these buildings.
