Abingdon is a town with a history – and quite a few old buildings to prove it. Personally, when it comes to sketching architecture, I like my buildings a bit askew, wonky, even. So when I came across a good piece of medieval overhang by the Market Square in Abingdon, it seemed a good opportunity to do some sketching.
With the light hitting the side of the building, I set up to draw from the alleyway towards a market square busy with tables and people drinking coffee. Probably not most people’s idea of a good sketching location! Here is my view and sketch in-situ…

I was happy enough with this sketch but I imagine it might later benefit from some colour to also show the contrast in the light.
