One of my more experimental watercolours, this is a view of one of Oxford’s old coaching inns – the Eastgate Hotel on the High Street. Originally a 17th c. Hotel at the former Eastern city gate, the hotel is now owned by the Mercure group and now houses an Italian restaurant owned by Marco Pierre White.
Perhaps not an obvious choice for a watercolour – I regard this as one of my less successful building illustrations. It is a bit more irregular and uneven than my normal work but I hope you like this.
Below is a cropped image of the High Street entrance to ‘Marco’s’ bar restaurant – I quite like the star and the representation of a Christmas tree – in the window -if a bit lost at this scale.
