Bladon Church, near Woodstock

This is my watercolour of St. Martin’s Church in the village of Bladon, which is immediately southeast of the grounds at Blenheim Palace. St. Martin’s is the parish church for Woodstock and is perhaps best known as the resting place of Sir Winston Churchill and other members of the Spencer-Churchill family.

Bladon is now a fairly quiet place, with its historic core of older houses clustered around the church. I am not sure that there is even a shop in the village now and the village pub closed a few years ago. The pub has been brought into community ownership and has been being refurnished and will be hopefully reopened soon.
