After a quick whisk around the Ashmolean Museum, I sat outside in the shade and did a sketch of The Randolph Hotel. The Hotel is just across the road from the Ashmolean so I thought I’d sketch the flags outside it’s main entrance. As I drew I realised that I needed to add some detail around and behind the flags.
Here is my view and sketch in-situ.

And here is a scan of my sketch.

Both inside the museum and outside there were quite a few people looking at their phones. For a while, I wondered if this was another trend of modern life – where you go somewhere, ‘do’ a venue or event but spend most of your time looking at your phone. After a while I twigged – these were mostly coach-party people looking at their phones – to find out if their coach was outside or scrolling while they waited – time to move on.
