Back to the Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick

The Lord Leycester Hospital is a Grade 1 listed historic building built against Warwick’s old West gate. It dates back to the 14th C. and is a charming place, especially if you like medieval half-timbered buildings.

I’ve made the trip up to Warwick before and spent an hour or so sketching the entrance of this old building. However, I hadn’t actually gotten to buy a ticket to go in or spend the time to go around, something I finally got around to last weekend. It was an opportunity to have a look at the place and also spend a while sketching the entrance to the main courtyard from the inside.

Here is my view – I liked this partly because the way that the building is leaning. It was also another chance to sketch the silhouettes of some of the hospital’s outlined period figures!

This fellow is a carved figure of a porcupine – and just about appears in the sketch above!
