Sketching Oxford Town Hall

The Oxford Town Hall is described as ‘Jacobean’ in style by Wikipedia and, when you look at it, it is quite a complicated building. That is probably why it hardly ever appears in sketches – it is just too daunting! Nonetheless, I’ve been building up to draw more complicated views around Oxford so I thought I’d try sketching this imposing and rather ornate building.

Sitting at one of the many bus stops opposite, here’s my view…

… and my sketch in-situ.

The sketch above is about as far as I got in one session – and because of the perspective I was also running out of paper!

I later went back and added some additional drawing on an A2 sized piece of paper. After various cutting and pasting, here is my completed sketch, below.
